Cameroon Journal, Yaoundé – Cameroon’s Elections management body, ELECAM has witnessed the greatest mutations in its history. The news of the appointment of Enow Abrams Egbe as new Chairman of the Electoral Board of ELECAM was made April 25, following a Presidential decree by Paul Biya, the President.
According to the Presidential decree, Amugu nee Abena Ekobena Appoline Marie was also appointed Vice Chairperson of ELECAM. Enow Abrams replaces Fonkam Azu’u who has presided over the affairs of the body since its creation in 2006 while Ekobena Appoline replaces Justice Ebanga Ewodo
Enow Abrams is a former Governor and he joined the Electoral Board of ELECAM as a member last May 2016 appointed by the President. As for Abena Ekobena, she is Sports and Physical Education Instructor by training and has served the Ministry of Sports in various capacities including Inspector General until her retirement last year.
Despite all the appointments into strategic positions at ELECAM in the past one year, the institution still faces credibility challenges amongst Cameroonians who see it as being bias and grossly favours the ruling party during every election.
