Cameroon Journal, Washington D.C – Between 1991 and 1995 when Dr. Simon Munzu emerged from the Yaoundé Tripartite Conference, and AAC I & II as the ‘Defender’ of the Southern Cameroons, he was the darling of the people – Southern Cameroonians. He had championed and argued vigorously the case for a return to a federal Cameroon. He did same in Buea in 1993 and in Bamenda, with tears in 1994, avowing that it is the arrangement that would best serve the manifold cultural nature of the country. When federation wasn’t forthcoming, he actually wept  that it was already too delayed. It was then that he became party to the 1994 Bamenda declaration of AAC II that summarily threatened La Republique du Cameroun LRC, with separation if the 1961 structure wasn’t hastily restored.

Today, however, Dr. Munzu appears to have evolved in his narrative. He is contending now, that the chances of Southern Cameroons separating from LRC are almost as good as nothing. He weathers the argument with the point that there exist no precedence where the UN has gone back to give any former Trust Territory independence, that the Southern Cameroons case cannot be any different.

Defending his changing opinion in this recent interview with the Cameroon Journal, Dr. Munzu said Anglophones have recourse only in a return to the federal system, and the only way to get there is endurance in deferred dialogue with LRC. Asked what would be the remedy to the federal option should the Paul Biya regime maintain its intransigence over it, Munzu said Independence. But he quickly added that it is costly, may be time consuming and people will die. Amongst other things, Munzu speaks about SCACUF and the Interim Gov’t, his recent feud with Tassang Wilfred, the return to school campaigns and calls for boycott.  The interview was conducted by CHRIS ANU – LISTEN!

  1. Good evening i just wanted to inform you that they are some Egyptians illegally sailing in Cameroon , and visiting people in their houses to sale them products for credit with no authorization, they even go to the point of biting them in their houses.

  2. Dr. Munzu is the first and the last to have ever worked at the UN and knows everything about UN that no one else IN SC knows. Infact, he is the UN. What does Dr. Munzu knows that no one else in SC knows about making 56 year old fake federalism work. How is he going to do it? He obviously wants to be relevant. He is jealous that new generation of leaders are doing what he could not do. He has spoken federalism the whole of his professional life. He has cried out his eyeballs for federalism and nothing happened. What plan does he have now? We the young generation do not fault him to have only cried instead of taking the stance of Dr. Mbala and other leaders today. He did his best but came shot of making an impact. Does he want to cry again? When I watch him speak, his body language tells me something different. He does not seem to believe in the federalism he seeks to sell. For him to suggest that we try federalism that has failed for 56 years with all the attempts to fix it and calling for another ACC1/2-like forum is simply insane. Who is he fooling? His present fixation on federalism and the timing of the so called dialogue suggest to me that this man is being paid to confuse this struggle at this critical time of school resumption so that attentions are diverted.
How much has he received from lrc to ruin this struggle for us? He speaks like because he worked for the UN SCians are obliged to listen to him or worship him in this struggle. There is nothing he knows that all of us do not know. We really don’t care for his input in this struggle although it is welcome if he behaves himself. How ever he is not compelled to, just as Atangha Nji, Musonge etc etc are not. In my opinion, stop paying flight/hotels for him to speak

  3. DEAR DOCTOR MUNZU
YOUR ISSUE IS MISLEADING. YOU ARE CAREFULLY PLAYING A DANGEROUS GAME. THE REAL ISSUE IS IF OUR SELF RULE WAS STOLEN. YOUR OWN INVENTED ISSUE IS – IF THERE IS ANY EXAMPLE WHERE THE UNITED NATIONS WENT BACK TO CORRECT A DIPLOMATIC ERROR FOR ANY FORMER TRUST TERRITORY. WELL, LETS JUST PRETEND AND SAY NO, EVEN SO…THERE IS ALWAYS A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING. THE GLASS IS HALF FULL, NOT HALF EMPTY. YOU JUST WANT TO BE ON LRC ‘S GOOD LIST. IN SHORT, YOU ARE AN INTELLIGENT SELL OUT.

  4. Getting our independence will be the best. Unfortunately that’s an illusion, not in this generation. If we keep the Federalism wheel spinning it may come through with the increasing pressure. That is attainable in my opinion however because it has been long overdue, many people think an outright independent nation of SC which I agree. For now a referendum should be organized exclusively for those from the NW n SW regions. And it should be on Federalism or Independce from LRC. Let the people in the quarters vote.

  5. To characterize possibility for independence as illusion is illusion by itself. I understand there are this agents of lrc who are paid to make discouraging comments online as to dampen the spirit of independence just as Dr. Munzu is being paid to do. But, we are too sophisticated to fall for that just as we are now too sophisticated for the divide and rule style in the past. If Dr. Munzu is not being paid, my question is, why is he allowed to fly in and out of lrc to talk federalism while Dr Mballa, Dr. Fontem etc etc are facing death penalty for the same stance. In the words of Ambassador Fossung, Munzu has long been compromised. Yep, he has long been compromised. We can not stop him from choosing the opposite side but let him come out clear like Musonge, Ngolle Ngolle, Atanga Nji etc. If Dr Munzu had a brain, he will know that he has been tuned out by SCians, but since he has been paid, he has lost his brain or still pushing the idea to keep his pay check coming

  6. Munzu it good you are openly portraying yourself as pretentious fool. You will be out rightly dealt with at the right time and at the right place.

  7. Munzu, it is very good that you are openly revealing yourself as an opponent of our Southern Cameroon/Ambazonia independence movement. I bet you, you will be out rightly dealt with at the right time and at the right place.
