Shootings in Bamenda Overnight – One Police Feared Dead

Southern Cameroons Journal, Bamenda – One Police officer is feared dead Saturday night breaking Sunday Nov. 19, after several gunshots were heard around Hospital Roundabout, Meta quarters and Bayelle neighborhood in Bamenda.

Sources around Hospital Roundabout say they heard serious gunshots during the night at about 2am.

They say some unidentified gun men stormed a Police checkpoint around the Roundabout area and attacked the officers on duty. The act turned into a gun battle between the security men and the assailant(s). No report as to whether the security succeeded to lay hands on the perpetrators.

Following the incident, heavily armed combat ready military was immediately deployed around these areas Sunday morning. Some roads were being blocked. In some quarters, people going to Church had to pass through severe checks.




At the Bamenda food market which is close to Hospital Roundabout and Meta quarters, there was pandemonium as people were being chased away. Serious checks are being carried out along the Bafut, Bali and Mbengwi out let roads.

The death of said police officer brings to 5 the number of soldiers killed in the ongoing anglophone crisis in the restive English-speaking regions.
