Cameroon Journal, Bamenda – North West Governor, Adolphe LELE L’AFRIQUE has qualified as vandals, Southern Cameroons youths who out of disenchantment with the Paul Biya’s gov’t for its marginalization of Anglophones went on rampage last week to prevent the holding of a CPDM march past Thursday, December 8, in Bamenda.

In a situational report forwarded to Communication Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary, L’AFRIQUE also refutes reports that eight people died in Bamenda during the Thursday brawl, stating that only 2 persons died.

The Governor’s report noted that 58 youths were arrested, 4 Gendarmes and 4 police officers injured, 9 police vans destroyed, 2 supporters of the CPDM party brutalized, while two public structures –  Bamenda Regional Hospital and 3rd Police District in Metah quarters

partially destroyed. L’AFRIQUE ends the report alleging that calm has returned to Bamenda and that people are going about their respective activities.

The Governor’s report didn’t say however, where the 58 arrested are being held and what would become of their fate. He also didn’t mention the number of youths wounded through Police brutality and neither did he make mention of the theft perpetrated on private property by the police.

The fact that the town of Bamenda is still heavily militarized is in direct contrast to what the governor has reported.
