The Ambazonia Defence Forces are one of the armed groups that emerged as the Anglophone crisis in Cameroon turned from street protest into conflict. They claim to fight for an independent state in the North-West and South-West regions; the government treats them as terrorists. Between those two positions are the civilians of the region, whose schools, markets and roads became part of the front line.
The articles collected here follow the group and the wider separatist movement: announcements of operations and lockdowns, clashes with the army, accusations of abuses against both sides, the role of leaders in the diaspora, and the repeated calls by churches, lawyers and foreign governments for dialogue.
Claims made by armed groups and by the military are often impossible to verify on the day they are made. Our reports say who is making each claim and what could be checked, so that the record stays useful when the facts become clearer.
